Matt Curtis began a life in community service at a young age by volunteering for causes and charities in Central Texas. In 2003 he first entered Austin City Hall as Aide to Councilmember Brewster McCracken. From 2004 to 2006 Curtis has served as Communications Director to Mayor Will Wynn where he worked on initiatives including the re-development of Downtown Austin. Later he served as Assistant Director of Business and Community Development at Capital Metro where he worked at the forefront of the Central Texas transportation discussion.

In 2009 Matt Curtis returned to City Hall to serve as Communications Director to Mayor Lee Leffingwell. He works on the Mayors efforts on Economic Development and Creative Industry projects. He represented the Mayor during the City's efforts to recruit 15,000 new jobs including Facebook to Austin and is the point of contact for issues facing the Music, Film and Interactive industries.

Currently, Matt Curtis is the Director of Government Relations for HomeAway, a successful local start-up company that is an online vacation rental marketplace.

Curtis serves on the United States Conference of Mayors Business Council, the Austin Lyric Opera and the IACT Board.

- In 2010 he was named “Best Unsung Behind-the-Scenester” by the Austin Chronicle.

- In 2011 he was named “Austinite of the Year” by Austin Under 40.

- In May 2011 the Texas Legislature unanimously passed HR2135 recognizing Matt’s efforts in the community.

- In July 2011 he joined the Harvard Kennedy School Urban Policy Advisory Board.
