YMBL members and guests are invited to our May YMBL Restaurant Series dining and wine tasting experience at a historic Victorian home turned restaurant, Mattie’s at Green Pastures. Come enjoy four courses exquisitely prepared by Executive Chef Joshua Thomas, formerly of NYC’s Le Bernardin and Devi, both Michelin-starred restaurants. The food will be paired with wine chosen by Sommelier Paula Rester.

The YMBL Restaurant Series is an exclusive benefit to members in order to bring about culinary awareness of the best restaurants and wines that make Austin a special place and to allow members to get to know each other in a VIP-style setting – all while providing a spectacular dining experience at a reduced price-point.

The all-inclusive price includes 4 courses plus wine pairing with each course, taxes, and tip. A normal dining experience of this level would cost at least $150 per person.

Due to limited space, this exclusive event is only open to the first 20 seats reserved. Open to current YMBL members, alumni, and a +1.

ABOUT MATTIE'S AT GREEN PASTURES

Green Pastures, a historic Victorian home in South Austin, finished construction in 1895 by local minister, E.W. Herndon. Mary Faulk Koock opened the restaurant in 1946, serving mostly comfort food and was notable for serving to customers of all races, 18 years before desegregation laws were past. Most recently in 2016, The La Corsha Group (Second Bar & Kitchen and Boiler Nine Bar) purchased the space and completely renovated it and renamed the restaurant Mattie’s at Green Pastures, after Martha “Mattie” Miner Faulk, mother of Mary Faulk Koock. The kitchen focuses on American classics with strong Texas influences!

Certified Sommelier Paula Rester has honed her wine skills at prestigious Austin restaurants like Uchi, Vino Vino, and Restaurant Congress. She recently returned to Austin to assume the wine director role at La Corsha Hospitality Group after working as a sommelier at Danny Meyer's Maialino in New York. At La Corsha, she is responsible for staff education and maintaining wine programs at Second Bar + Kitchen Concepts, long-awaited Boiler Nine Bar + Grill and Mattie’s at Green Pastures. She relishes the opportunity to create wine lists that represent a broad range of classics mixed with emerging regions and producers.

Joshua Thomas, formerly of NYC’s Le Bernardin and Devi, both Michelin-starred restaurants, also owned and operated the former Chaat Shop food truck after returning to Austin. Thomas has created a menu that highlights the same local, fresh American cuisine that historically characterizes the Green Pastures’ menu, with a focus on carefully sourced ingredients from local farms and purveyors.
