YMBL hosts Civic Leader for the September Speaker Series luncheon to share stories on leadership, civic engagement, business and building community


AUSTIN, TX—The Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) announced today that its August Speaker Series luncheon will feature Stephanie Whallon, Director of Texas Film Commission.


The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, from 11:30 AM to 1 PM  at Chateau Bellevue in Downtown Austin.

The Texas Film Commssion (TFC) is a state agency within the Governor's Office that supports and promotes the film, television, commercial, animation, video game, VFX and extended reality industries in Texas. Established in 1971, the TFC serves as a central resource, connecting production companies to Texas's diverse locations, experience workforce and support services.


Other important Updates:


Senate Bill 22 was passed on June 23. Noted to be the "single-largest investment in job creation in Texas media production industries in the history of our great state"


-Sets minimum and maximum percentage levels

-Sets new minimum percentages for the hiring of Texas residents by production type

-Sets new percentages for grants based on eligible in-state spending levels and eligible wages paid to Texas residents by production type.

-Establishes new, additional "uplifts" for eligible productions

-Sets a percentage cap for total reimbursement grants


Stephanie Whallon received her MFA in film production from the Columbia University School of the Arts Graduate Film Program with a concentration in screenwriting. After graduating, she worked in film production finance for companies located in New York, Los Angeles, and all over the world. While in Los Angeles she worked for Warner Bros and Clint Eastwood’s company, Malpaso Productions on films including Flags of Our Fathers, Nights in Rodanthe, Changeling, Gran Torino and as a visual effects accountant on The Dark Knight.


Stephanie has served as Director of the Texas Film Commission since 2018. Having been at the Commission for 15 years, she previously served as Manager of the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program. In her spare time, she can be found collecting way too many books and volunteering her time to teach writing for veteran’s programs.
